Here’s what you need to know before investing

Every day, we meet buyers interested in purchasing property along the Costa del Sol. One of the most frequently asked questions is:
👉 Which is the best area to invest in?

The answer depends on several factors, as each area offers different advantages depending on your budget, investment goals, and lifestyle preferences.

Here are the 4 key factors you should consider before making a decision:

1️⃣ BUDGET

Your budget will define which areas can offer you the best value for your money.

💶 More affordable areas near the sea:
Sabinillas, Casares, Manilva and Puerto de la Duquesa are great options if you’re looking for competitive prices without sacrificing proximity to the beach.

📈 More established and in-demand areas (higher price per square metre):
Estepona, Marbella, Fuengirola and Benalmádena are well-known for their popularity and strong tourist appeal.

2️⃣ PROXIMITY TO AIRPORTS

If you plan to travel frequently or use your property as a holiday rental, being close to an airport can be a significant advantage.

✈️ Close to Málaga Airport (AGP):

  • Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola (approx. 15 minutes away)
  • La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda (approx. 25 minutes away)

✈️ Close to Gibraltar Airport (GIB):

  • Sotogrande, Puerto de la Duquesa, Sabinillas and Manilva

3️⃣ TRANSPORT & CONNECTIVITY

The Costa del Sol covers a large area, and not all towns are equally connected in terms of public transport.

🚉 Best-connected areas by train and bus:

  • Fuengirola is ideal, with its own train station offering direct connections to Málaga, and a central bus station with routes along the coast.
  • The commuter train line (Cercanías) currently connects Málaga – Torremolinos – Benalmádena – Fuengirola.

📍 Note: From Fuengirola westwards (towards Marbella, Estepona and Manilva), there is no train service, so travel is by car or bus only.

4️⃣ CITY OR OUTSKIRTS?

This is a key factor in defining the lifestyle you’re looking for.

🏙️ Looking for city life and all amenities nearby?
Then urban centres such as Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella or Estepona are ideal.

🌿 Prefer a more relaxed, peaceful setting?
Then the outskirts offer a more tranquil lifestyle, with residential developments in areas such as Casares, Manilva, the New Golden Mile in Estepona, Calahonda, La Cala de Mijas and Mijas Costa.

💡 Final Thoughts

Investing in the Costa del Sol is a smart move, whether you’re looking for a profitable opportunity or a better quality of life.
The key is understanding the characteristics of each area and choosing the one that suits your needs best.
